Web Directory Trends 2012 according to Google

Budding web directory business owners – if you want to know what’s hot on Google when it comes to web directory, I recommend you to try using Google Insights for Search for the search term “web directory.”

Google Insights is a great tool to find out what people are searching for and from which regions are those people are originating from. Here are some interesting findings I learn from Google Insights for Search for “web directory”:

1. Web directory keeps declining in interest

At least in the past 8 years, interest on web directories drops significantly. I see this not as the death of web directory business, though – I see this as the aftermath of the many other things people are interested with regard to the web – mainly social media.

However, the decline is justifiable, though – many SEO experts slam web directories, and even Google discounts web directories’ value over the time – even dropping DMOZ/ODP listing from Google’s own directory. There will be natural selection, and only the strongest thrives – and keep making big bucks from clients.

2. Web directory interests people from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India

Have you ever wondered why there are many people dealing with directory-related from those regions? I think the answer is this simple: They are IT-literate and willing to work hard for every penny they earn. Some of the biggest directory submission businesses on the web today resides in those regions, too.

3. Many people are looking for directory lists

According to the top search terms, directory list and free directory are getting big number of searches. That’s quite possibly that people are looking for a list to submit their/clients’ websites mainly to free web directories. That being said, releasing a directory list on your directory, blog, or forum thread will get good amount of traffic and leads.

4. Rising search trends: web 2.0 directory and directory submission

From time to time again, directory submissions keeps on top of Internet marketers’ mind as cost-effective ways to get their websites promoted and getting better ranking. Again, this is why web directory business is far from a dead business – web directories and the related services still offer value to clients and visitors.

Regarding “web 2.0 directory” search term reaching a “breakout” level, I believe that with the ever-growing social-media-sphere, people are interested in web directories that are 2.0-powered: The ability to share via social media; the ability for clients to get listed in the directory and get promoted on social media at the same time, and many more. So, yes – going Web 2.0 is the way to go in the future!

Again, here’s a complete insight on web directory, according to Google Insights for Search.
